A taspar egg is the egg of a animal lifeform from Cardassia called a taspar. Taspar eggs were a common food item of the Cardassian diet.

History and specifics[]

During the first diplomatic visit by Cardassians to planet Bajor, Minister Kubus Oak apologized that their Bajoran feast might now have been as appealing as taspar eggs. (ST - Terok Nor novel: Day of the Vipers)

Taspar eggs were served during a reception aboard the USS Carthage in 2328 for a Cardassian diplomatic team. The mess chef had found it a challenge to cook them properly. (TLE novel: Well of Souls)

Interestingly, the event referenced in Well of Souls is actually seen in The Art of the Impossible, though that book only mentions a "peculiar-looking egg" dish without naming it.

Gul Madred fed Captain Jean-Luc Picard a raw taspar egg while holding him prisoner in 2368. (TNG episode: "Chain of Command, Part II")

In 2376, Quark and a partner, Deru acquired land on planet Chin'toka IX from a retired Gul, paying for it with taspar eggs and kanar. (DS9 novel: Demons of Air and Darkness)
