Tycho IV

Tycho IV was a planet located in the Alpha or Beta Quadrant. Amongst the many elements that have been detected on the planet include dikironium, dilithium, and dioramium.

In 2257, the planet was visited by the Constitution-class starship, USS Farragut. While landing parties were surveying the planet, they were attacked by a dikironium cloud creature. Following this attack the creature proceeded to go into space and entered the Farragut. Once entering the Farragut, the creature proceeded to kill 200 crewmembers including Captain Garrovick.

For many years, James T. Kirk believed that had he not hesitated in firing phasers at the creature before it entered the ship, that all their lives could be saved. However, it was revealed in 2268 during an encounter between the creature and the USS Enterprise, that the creature was impervious to phaser fire. (TOS episode: "Obsession" & novel: My Brother's Keeper: Constitution).

It was a case of poetic justice, that the creature was destroyed by Kirk on the planet in 2268 when a large antimatter device was detonated when the creature tried to attack it. (TOS episode: "Obsession").

Note: The Shatnerverse novel, The Ashes of Eden, present the mission to Tycho IV in a different manner than what was described in My Brother's Keeper: Constitution. In this version, Kirk and Androvar Drake beamed down to the planet to locate the creature, and after hesitating to fire, the creature proceeded to destroy the Farragut.
