The USS Ajax was a Federation starship, a Defiant-class escort/destroyer in Starfleet service in the 24th century. It was one of a number of vessels named for the two heroes of Earth mythology named Ajax. (ST video games: Armada, Armada II)

History[]

This vessel was preceded by the Apollo-class starship USS Ajax, active in the 2360s. (TNG episode: "Redemption, Part II")

The Ajax was active by 2376. In that year, the destroyer-rated ship was involved in conflicts surrounding the pursuit of the Omega particle by the Borg Collective. (ST video game: Armada)

Six months later, in 2377, the Ajax again served on the frontlines to defend the Federation and the Alpha Quadrant against the Borg and other hostiles. (ST video game: Armada II)

No specific history or definitive final fate was established for this vessel as its name was selected for a destroyer by the Armada I and II game developers, and is placed randomly each time the ship appears.

On February 10[3], 2381, the Ajax was part of a group of ships defending Deneva from the Borg during their 2381 invasion. During the battle, it was destroyed. (ST - Destiny novel: Lost Souls)

Legacy[]

In 2410, a new USS Ajax was launched, and became the lead ship of the Ajax-class pilot escort. (STO - The Iconian War mission: "Delta Flight")

During the Iconian War, the Alpha Quadrant Alliance tested the use of the KIS Annorax against different targets in holodeck simulations. In Scenario Alpha, stars in the Beta Quadrant were destroyed, resulting in a simulation were the Dominion succeeded in all-out conquest of the Alpha Quadrant. In this scenario, the tactical escort Ajax was left crippled near Earth. The ship's commanding officer - impersonated by an AQA officer - repelled a Jem'Hadar boarding party on the bridge, then provided first aid to the injured and disheveled bridge officers while asking them about the state of the quadrant: The Federation had been unable to withstand Dominion assault after a protracted war with the Romulan Star Empire, and the Klingon Empire had ripped itself asunder. Several Federation planets had fallen or where outright destroyed. Long range scans detected no signs of Iconian activity.

A Vorta commander hailed the Ajax and offered to spare the ship if its crew surrendered, and threatened destruction otherwise. The AQA officer acting as captain defied the Vorta, and proceeded to download information about this simulated universe from the console at the captain's chair. The simulation ended at this point.

The simulation had been held at the Kyana Research Station. Scenario Alpha was conceived by the team of Krenim team leader Soffen. Due to the disastrous outcome, the scenario was deemed a failure. (STO - The Iconian War mission: "Butterfly")
