In 2267, the Ahkeil under the command of Captain Whitsitt was assigned to Vanguard in the Taurus Reach, and was part of the squadron defending the station from a hostile fleet at the time the Organians imposed a ceasefire between the Federation and the Klingon Empire. (VAN novel: Open Secrets)

The Akhiel accompanied the USS Endeavor and the USS Defiant on a mission to drive Klingon forces off of Golmira, a low-tech planet where a Shedai conduit had been discovered. (VAN novel: Precipice)

By 2268, the Akheil had been assigned to Vanguard on a interim basis. It was reassigned by Starfleet Command to missions of equal or greater importance. (VAN novel: What Judgments Come)
