Service history and disposition[]

- The Star Trek Infinite game software has each campaign having a certain chance of spawning an Excelsior ship named "Al-Batani" from a list of preselected names. Through this application of video game logic, it is also possible that this name would be assigned to a number of other types of vessels.
In the year 2357, the Al-Batani was undergoing an overhaul and command was given to Admiral Owen Paris for a five year mission. Al-Batani had an illustrious service career. Following her graduation from Starfleet Academy, Ensign Kathryn Janeway was assigned to the Al-Batani as science officer. During her tour on the Al-Batani she participated in the Arias expedition. On one mission, the Al-Batani was trapped in a proto-nebula for several days, because of the intense gravimetric forces.
