The USS Alliance was an Excelsior-class Federation starship in service during the mid to late 24th century. By the 2370s, the Alliance was under the command of Captain Saavik.
While originally deployed as a science vessel, she was converted to a warship at the start of the Dominion War in 2373. Over the next two years of the war, the Alliance successfully participated in many battles, and survived.
In 2377, the Alliance was in Earth orbit and left for to gather a fleet to help stop the Watraii. The Alliance and the fleet encountered the Watraii Fleet and a Romulan Fleet. The Alliance attempted to make peace between the two fleets, but failed. (TOS - Vulcan's Soul novel: Exodus)
The Alliance was outfitted with a Romulan cloaking device, received new personnel, and went to the Watraii home world and sent down an away team. She then fought against Watraii vessels at the planet. The away team was rescued, and the Alliance went back to Federation space. (TOS - Vulcan's Soul novel: Exiles)
In 2379, the Alliance was still under the command of Saavik. When Commander Tuvok went undercover on Romulus and met Spock, he mentioned that he bore greetings from Saavik of the Alliance. (TTN novel: Taking Wing)
