The USS Ayers was an Ambassador-class Federation starship in service in the 24th century under Captain Ward.

In 2370, the Ayers was destroyed during an engagement with several Romulan warbirds during the Romulan incursion. Having encountered and destroyed several Warbirds which were not using their cloaking devices (and under-armed), in the Beremar system contact was lost.

The USS Enterprise-D was sent by Outpost 543 to investigate only to find debris and radiation of the ship, destroyed by the Cionex. (TNG video game: A Final Unity)

The Ayers is mentioned in the game if the player hasn't engaged the Cionex in the earlier mission. Having done so, no distress signal is mentioned, and presumably the skirmish (and the ship's destruction) is prevented.
