The USS Broadsword was a 24th century Federation starship, an Oberth-class science vessel II-rated scout ship in Starfleet service around the mid-2370s decade. (TNG video game: Birth of the Federation)

Service history[]

Namesake[]

A broadsword was a type of sword, a melee weapon used by Humans on Earth in the 17th century. (TOS novel: Home is the Hunter)

In the 2360s, Starfleet operated a starship named the USS Broadsword. (FASA module: Star Trek: The Next Generation Officer's Manual)

Active service[]

In a series of events where the major powers of local space in the galaxy were involved in general war, Starfleet named an Oberth-class science vessel the Broadsword. Categorized as a scout ship, the Oberth-class was deployed for exploration and reconnaissance missions. On behalf of the Federation, the Broadsword saw combat action against the Cardassians, Klingons, Romulans and other hostile nations. (TNG video game: Birth of the Federation)

No specific history or definitive final fate was established for this vessel as its name was selected for a science vessel by the game developers, and is placed randomly when the ship appears.

Legacy[]

The new Broadsword in 2377.

During the Borg invasion of 2377, the Borg Collective attacked the Alpha and Beta Quadrants after they became embroiled in a renewed conflict with the Undine, known only by their Borg designation "Species 8472". The USS Broadsword was one of several Aegian-class frigates fielded by the Federation against the Borg and the Undine. This included counter-attacks by Starfleet leading into the Delta Quadrant and fluidic space. (ST video game: Armada II)
