The USS Challenger (NCC-1715) was a Federation Constitution-class (of the Mk II Bonhomme Richard-subclass) class I/class IX heavy cruiser starship in service to Starfleet in the 23rd century.

The Challenger was built to Mk II specifications and entered service on reference stardate 2/0008. She was later refit to Mk III (Achernar-subclass) specifications on stardate 2/0508. The Yamato was later refit to become a Mk I Enterprise-subclass on stardate 2/1707. (ST reference: Federation Ship Recognition Manual)

In 2275, the Challenger was docked at Starbase 18. She was a candidate to test the new inversion drive technology, but lost out to the USS Enterprise. (TOS novel: The Wounded Sky)
