In 2356, Captain Mansfield took command of the Charleston, and in 2361, Commander Idun Asmund became his first officer. (TNG novel: Reunion).

In 2364, the Charleston met with the USS Enterprise-D to take three revived 20th century cryonic survivors to Earth. (TNG episode: "The Neutral Zone").

In 2367, the Charleston transported Idun Asmund to Starbase 81. (TNG novel: Reunion).

In 2368, the Charleston was part of the Federation blockade of Romulan space during the Klingon Civil War. episode: Redemption, Part II)
