The USS Columbia (NCC-2002) was an Excelsior-class Federation battleship starship active in the 23rd and 24th centuries.
The Columbia was the first mark II Excelsior-class vessel to be contracted by Starfleet, launched around reference stardate 2/2302 in the 2280s, officially undergoing ship commissioning shakedown trials began shortly after on stardate 2/2400. (TOS roleplay module: Federation Starship Recognition Manual)
This ship was used, in simulated form, bearing the registry NCC-2014, as the main player Excelsior-class vessel in one of the Starfleet Academy bridge crew training simulations for the class of 2288. As such, she had to be "self-destructed" to seal a tear in the space-time continuum to free the Coalition ship Renown and Klingon ship IKS Dukat from the year 2504. (TOS video game: Starfleet Academy)
- This ship was seen in-game with the given name and registry number clearly written on her hull in a simulated mission from the game's expansion pack, Chekov's Lost Missions.
The Columbia was decommissioned and mothballed on stardate 2/9909 in the 24th century. (TNG roleplay module: Star Trek: The Next Generation Officer's Manual)
