By the 2280s, this vessel had been modified as an Akula-class vessel. (ST video game: Starfleet Command)

Since the 2280s Etzel had the same name, registry and general configuration, it could be assumed that the later ship was this same vessel with a new hull structure grafted on in a refit process.
