For other uses, see Gagarin.

The USS Gagarin was a Federation starship, an Oberth-class science vessel in service to Starfleet in the late 23rd century. It was also the prototype of the Gagarin-subclass, entering service on reference stardate 2/1912. (FASA RPG module: Starship Tactical Combat Simulator)

The Gagarin was a successor in its name after an earlier scoutship USS Gagarin which had been decommissioned in the year 2269. This Gagarin would be succeeded in name by the USS Yuri Gagarin in the 24th century. (TOS novel: Crisis on Centaurus, TNG episode: "The Measure of a Man")

History[]

As of the year 2279, the Gagarin was under the command of Captain Gralev, with a crew of fifty. That year, they were assigned to study planet Nuvidula IV as a possible source of dilithium. The Gagarin was attacked by an Imperial Klingon vessel, the IKS Vo'taq. Once they were boarded, Gralev initiated the self destruct program and destroyed the ship, though not before the Klingons were able to beam themselves and twenty-eight prisoners to their own ship. (TOS novel: In the Name of Honor)
