The USS Gallant (NCC-74206) was a Federation Defiant-class heavy escort (or battleship) in service in the late 24th century. Following her launch in 2371, she was commanded by Captain Bill Cross. (Last Unicorn RPG module: Star Trek: The Next Generation - Player's Guide)

Unfortunately, the Gallant's service history was short-lived, as she was destroyed by Cardassian forces in 2372, while performing a covert operations mission along the border. (Decipher RPG module: Starships)

The Gallant was succeeded in name by the Nebula-class USS Gallant, in service by late 2373. (TNG - The Dominion War novel: Behind Enemy Lines)
