The USS Gryphon was an Akira-class Federation starship in service with Starfleet in the late 24th century.

Service history[]

In April 2376, the Gryphon, commanded by Captain Elaine Mello, delivered the USS Defiant's replacement warhead module from the Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards. (DS9 novel: Abyss)

In May, the Gryphon assisted in the evacuation of Europa Nova during the Iconian gateway crisis. (DS9 - Gateways novel: Demons of Air and Darkness)

From June, the Gryphon was assigned to Deep Space 9, standing in for the Defiant while that ship was exploring the Gamma Quadrant for three months. Leonard James Akaar kept quarters aboard the Gryphon during this time. (DS9 - Mission Gamma novel: Twilight)

In August, first officer Commander Alejandro Montenegro, who had been inhabited by a bluegill parasite, seized control of the Gryphon and attempted to use it to attack planet Trill. Prior to her death, Captain Mello transferred command to Kira Nerys who was able to stop Montenegro and regain control of the Gryphon. (DS9 - Mission Gamma novel: Lesser Evil)

The Gryphon soon returned to Deep Space 9. (DS9 novel: Unity)

In October 2382, the Gryphon docked at Deep Space 9 to allow the crew rest and relaxation. The ship was there for at least two weeks. (ST - Typhon Pact novel: Plagues of Night)
