In 2370, the Hera, under the command of Captain Silva La Forge, with a crew composed mainly of Vulcans, mysteriously disappeared on a courier run. Although a massive search was mounted, no trace of the vessel or its crew was ever found. The ship was believed to have been destroyed and a memorial service was held for the crew. (TNG episode: "Interface", Decipher RPG module: Starfleet Operations Manual)
In 2383 the crew of the USS Challenger discovered evidence that the Hera had been transported into deep space by a form of natural quantum slipstream. The transit had modified the molecular structure of the Hera, increasing its density and warping the vessel. An away mission from the Challenger was able to investigate the vessel and rescued several survivors from the vessel. (TNG novel: Indistinguishable from Magic)
In 2411, Captain Akira Sulu informs Starfleet that the USS Hera was destroyed by Orions pirates while on a survey mission. The Hera was no match for the Orions, and the Hera lost more than 50 Starfleet officers," indicating the destruction of or severe damage to the vessel by Orion pirates. In orbit around the planet were various pieces of debris, some of which appears to be consistent with a Nebula-class starship's saucer configuration. (ST video game: Star Trek Online)
