MAJOR SPOILERS
WARNING! This article contains MAJOR spoilers for the recently released novel Takedown. Caution is advised.
For other uses, see USS Laplace.

The USS Laplace was a Federation starship, a Saber-class light cruiser in Starfleet service in the 24th century. In the 2380s decade, the Laplace was assigned to the Starfleet Corps of Engineers. (TNG novel: Takedown)

History and specifications

In November 2385, the Laplace was assigned to perform a long-term refit of the Corvus Beacon, a subspace telescope in the Beta Quadrant. The repairs were interrupted when the Cytherian-controlled USS Aventine arrived and began firing on the array.

When the USS Enterprise-E arrived to defend Corvus Beacon against the Aventine, Captain Jean-Luc Picard ordered Captain Kwelm to assist. After the Aventine completed its mission at the array, it departed. The Enterprise pursued the rogue Vesta-class while the Laplace remained behind to salvage its repairs of Corvus Beacon.

Weeks later, Admiral William T. Riker watched the events from Laplace's bridge in a holographic simulation to ascertain his mental health. (TNG novel: Takedown)

This is one of a number of ships to be so named, succeeding the earlier Doppler-class transport USS Laplace. (ST reference: Star Fleet Technical Manual)
