The USS Mendeleev was a Federation Starfleet starship in active service during the late 24th century.
During the Borg invasion in 2381, the Mendeleev was dispatched to the Azure Nebula to join the other allied reinforcements there to prevent further Borg incursions. While on station, the Mendeleev was assigned the task to determine the proper soliton wave frequency to open subspace tunnel aperture twenty-four alpha. Although the vessel's Captain expected to complete their assignment within the hour, before any vessel could pass through to scout, tunnel twenty-six opened to allow over seven thousand Borg cubes through, assaulting the awaiting fleet.
