The USS Mercury was a Saber-class starship in service to Starfleet in the late 24th century.

The Mercury defended Earth against the Borg in 2373.

In 2376. the Mercury was at Earth to pick up Commander Troi for a diplomatic mission to Gorn Space and to Fereginar. The Mercury was able to take Gorn vessels to rendezvous with Captain Picard’s fleet. The Mercury fought in the Battle of Rimbor against the Petraw Fleet and was damaged.

The Mercury was Captain Carter Brisbayne’s first command. The Enterprise towed the Mercury back to Federation space. TNG novels: Gateways: "Doors Into Chaos", "What Lay Beyond", The Other Side).
