In 2273, the Merrimac was receiving orders from the Epsilon IX Station shortly before the station was destroyed. (TOS movie: Star Trek: The Motion Picture)

By the 2280s, Merrimac was outfitted to the specifications of an Enterprise-subclass vessel, specifically as a rear-fire heavy cruiser. (ST video game: Starfleet Command)
