The USS Miranda (NCC-1800) was the prototype of the Miranda-class medium cruiser in Starfleet service in the 23rd and 24th centuries. The vessel was refitted during its career to the later uprated standards of more advanced Miranda-class vessels that followed it. According to the RPG guide Starfleet Operations Manual, the Miranda was launched in 2283. This is in contradiction to the perception held by some fans and non-canonical reference works that Miranda-class starships were in service prior to 2270.
