Service history and disposition

Oslo was the capital city of Norway on Earth. (TOS episode: "The Cage")

The USS Oslo was active in the 2370s and participated in the Dominion War.

Around stardate 51246.9, in 2374, the Oslo was one of ten Norway-class medium cruisers assigned to six Nebula-class science vessels to protect the sector containing the Setlik star system from the combined forces of the Dominion and the Cardassian Union.

Starfleet Intelligence had gathered that a small Cardassian garrison might be assigned to Setlik III and IV. The Intelligence report turned out to be incorrect. Instead, two large Cardassian ship garrisons and six Jem'Hadar strike ships attacked the task force.

Battle of Setlik, 2374.

The Dominion force destroyed the Oslo, Bodø, Lillehammer and Narvik instantly in a surprise attack. The four Norway ships were lost before the nearby USS Lexington could raise a red alert. (SCE eBook: War Stories, Book 1)

In the year 2393, a new USS Oslo (NCC-79719) was launched as the prototype of the Oslo-class heavy escort. The Oslo-class was the successor of the Norway medium cruiser. (STO website : Ships of the Line)
