The USS Potomac was a Federation runabout assigned by Starfleet to the Tezwa rebuilding effort. The Potomac handled the transporter placement of the demolition charges that opened a roof entrance into a suspected insurgent stronghold in Odina-Keh. The Potomac was destroyed in a crash-landing when deposed Prime Minister Kinchawn launched his coordinated coup d'état. There were no survivors. (TNG novel: A Time to Heal)

Although the vessel's class wasn't specified, given the series and time period it was likely a Danube-class. Although never mentioned as such in the novel, the USS prefix is also speculation.
