[edit] Background
The Prometheus was still active in 2378, 5 years after the USS Prometheus (NX-59650) was commissioned. Thus, for several years, Starfleet had two starships named USS Prometheus active. A possible reason for this is that Starfleet recommissioned the Nebula-class version during or after the Dominion War, similar to how the USS Melbourne was rushed into service during the Borg attack of 2376, even though there was already another USS Melbourne in service at the time.
