The USS Ranger (NX-315, upgraded to NCC-315) was a Federation starship and the lead ship of her class. She was a Ranger-class explorer in service to Starfleet in the 23rd century.

Ranger was launched in 2215, and shortly thereafter changed to NCC. Three years later, in 2218, the Ranger was sent on a first contact mission to Agbar IV. The mission took a disastrous turn, and the Ranger was destroyed by a Klingon attack. (Decipher RPG module: Starfleet Operations Manual)

Named after the (currently) eight US Navy warships named USS Ranger, the last two having been aircraft carriers.
