The USS Richtofen (NCC-4436) was a Larson-class Federation destroyer in service in the 23rd century.
On reference stardate 2/1502, the Richtofen was recalled for an engine refit and scheduled maintenance to shipboard systems. As the ship's refit neared completion, a group of spirited ensigns and sympathetic workers decided to paint the Richtofen's hull bright red in honor of it's namesake.
Despite the breach in regulations, Starfleet decided to keep the vessel's new color scheme, but those involved were mildly disciplined. (FASA RPG module: Federation Ship Recognition Manual)
