The USS Sentinel (NCC-1733-B[2]) was a 24th century Federation starship, a Sovereign-class battleship[1] in Starfleet service in the 2370s decade. Its commanding officer was Captain Marcus Brennan. (TNG video game: Invasion)

Service history and disposition[]

Early service[]

The Sentinel was the third ship to bear the name and NCC registry number. (TNG video game: Invasion)

On the Sentinel-B's predecessors was a 23rd century Miranda-class starship active in the year 2288. (SA video game: Starfleet Academy)

Starfleet launched the Sentinel-B following the end of the end of the Dominion War in 2375. The ship was outfitted with an experimental interspatial warp drive, noticeable by the modified warp nacelles, and was under the command of Marcus Brennan, a seasoned veteran of the fleet. Brennan's XO was Commander Patrick Cates. (TNG video game: Invasion)

The Sentinel was one of the Federation starships combating the Borg Collective when Locutus attempted to assimilate the Alpha Quadrant and gain control over an Omega particle in the year 2376. (ST video game: Armada)

Some six months later, in 2377, the Sentinel saw action during a renewed Borg invasion, compounded with a Cardassian uprising organized by Gul Kentar and incursions by Species 8472. (ST video game: Armada II)

Titan System Incident[]

After launch, the Sentinel was testing its engines near the Titan system. Upon entering orbit of Rkar N'ra in the Titan system, Captain Brennan led an away team to the surface and discovered an ancient transphasic pulse generator.

Returning to the ship in an "agitated state", Captain Brennan and the away party were quarantined in sickbay while Commander Cates investigated the Vanguard complex. The signals broadcasted from the pulse generator caused the ancient machinery to activate, launching thousands upon thousands of the Kam'Jahtae fighters. Shortly after, Starfleet lost contact with the Sentinel, until the USS Typhon received word from a Romulan commander that the Sentinel was responsible for damaging several a D'deridex-class warbirds operating near Rkar N'ra in 2377. For most of the Titan System Incident, the Sentinel would stay in orbit of Rkar N'ra while the transphasic pulse generator expanded the subspace rift.

Sentinel damaged

The Sentinel limps.

Towards the end of the conflict, the Typhon finally found the Sentinel leaving orbit of Rkar N'ra and heading towards the subspace rift. Captain Brennan's morals were warped by the Hur'q/Kam'Jahtae mind control, and he intended to take the ship into the rift. Despite heavy damage inflicted by Valkyrie fighters, the Sentinel continued towards the rift. With the engines disabled and the ship drifting closer, Captain Brennan activated the self-destruct sequence. The Sentinel was destroyed while escape pods were launched. Thanks to the efforts of Ensign Ryan Cooper, the escape pod carrying Brennan and the transphasic pulse generator was tractored into the rift, and the Hur'q were forced back into their prison. (TNG video game: Invasion)

Legacy[]

USS Sentinel NCC-95792

The Sentinel in 2410.

In 2379, the Sentinel was represented in training scenarios at Starfleet Academy. (ST video game: Armada II mission: "Tutorial")

By 2409, Starfleet had commissioned a new USS Sentinel, prototype of the Sentinel-class star cruiser. (STO video game: Welcome to Earth Spacedock)

Alternate timelines[]

USS Sentinel

An alternate Sentinel in 2375.

In the First Splinter[3] timeline, an Akira-class cruiser bore the name USS Sentinel (NCC-68455). In 2375, this Sentinel was caught behind enemy lines during the Dominion War, when its engines failed. Chief Engineer Sonya Gomez managed to repair the ship's warp engines. In order to expedite their retreat, Gomez adjusted the warp field so that the Sentinel appeared to be a Cardassian vessel to Breen sensors. (SCE - War Stories eBook: Book 1)

In an alternate timeline where the Cardassians discovered the Bajoran wormhole and did not retreat from Bajor, the Sentinel was part of Jean-Luc Picard's fleet during the Cardassian War. (ST - Myriad Universes novel: A Gutted World)
