The USS Sutherland (NCC-72015) was a Federation Nebula-class explorer starship in service to Starfleet in the late 24th century.
In 2368, the Sutherland was temporarily commanded by Lieutenant Commander Data while it was part of a blockade along the Romulan-Klingon border. (TNG episode: "Redemption, Part II"; Decipher RPG module: Starfleet Operations Manual; WizKids module: Tactics)
The Sutherland was equpped with a Yoyodyne propulsion system, and Type X phasers. (WizKids module: Tactics)
During the Dominion War it was assigned to the Ninth Fleet at Bajor and commanded by Captain Shelby. Manuele Atoa also served aboard the Sutherland. (DS9 episode: "You Are Cordially Invited..."; DS9 - Worlds of Deep Space Nine novel: The Dominion: Olympus Descending; WizKids module: Tactics)
The Sutherland docked at Deep Space 9 again several months later. Jadzia Dax wanted to invite several of its crew members to a party on the station. (DS9 episode: "Change of Heart")
Later that year, the Sutherland was one of sixteen Federation ships assigned to defend the Setlik system against Cardassian forces during the Dominion War. (SCE eBook: War Stories, Book 1)
By 2377, the Sutherland had either been decommissioned or lost and replaced by a new ship bearing the name Sutherland. (TNG video game: Armada II)
In an alternate timeline where the Cardassians did not withdraw from Bajor, Data was given permanent command of the Sutherland in 2373. (ST - Myriad Universes novel: A Gutted World)
