The USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) was an Enterprise-class/Nimitz-class aircraft carrier in United States Navy service on Earth in the 20th and 21st centuries, named for President Theodore Roosevelt of the United States of America. This vessel may have been succeeded in name by such vessels as the 23rd century Federation starships USS Roosevelt. (TNG novel: Ghost Ship)
Background
Edit
The identification of the Theodore Roosevelt as Enterprise-class is based on a reference to its Nimitz-class sister ship, USS George Washington (CVN-73). In the novel Ghost Ship, the ship is described as belonging to the Enterprise-class, despite the fact that the real-life vessel, like the Theodore Roosevelt, was a ship of the Nimitz-class. The George Washington was not yet in service at the time of the book's writing in 1987. The "Enterprise-class" is an uncertain designation, seeing as the prototype USS Enterprise (CVN-65) led the way for a generation of nuclear powered aircraft carriers, of which the Washington is a part, even though, in the strictest definition, Enterprise is in a class by herself since no other vessels were constructed to her exact specifications.
