The USS Utopia (NCC-2151-01) was a 25th century Federation starship, a tier 1-rated NX-class light escort and modern prototype of its class, in Starfleet service in the 2400s and 2410s[2] decades. (STO - Klingon War mission: "Welcome to Earth Spacedock")

Service history and disposition[]

Construction rationale[]

UtopiaPlanitia

Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards at Mars in 2409.

In the 2390s and 2400s, Starfleet worked on modernizing its fleet and enable its ships to become modular. (STO novel: The Needs of the Many)

When the Starfleet Corps of Engineers (SCE) began to revise new and existing starship classes to be modular, the engineer at the Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards constructed a replica of the 22nd century United Earth Starfleet NX-class spaceframe. Outwardly, the Utopia resembled an 2150s-era NX-class cruiser[3]. But its insides consisted of state-of-the-art technology. As a nod towards history, the NX-class replica was fitted with a grappler.

The Utopia launched in the year 2409, during the Federation-Klingon War of 2405-2410. It carried the USS name prefix for Federation Starfleet vessels, and the NCC registry number prefix denoting commissioned Starfleet ships. The registry number NCC-2151-01 was a reference to the original United Earth Starfleet prototype Enterprise NX-01, launched in the year 2151[4]

Columbia class impulse flight

A 22nd century Columbia-class ship refitted to 23rd century specs.

Although the Utopia was designed to be modular, initially none of its components were interchangeable with any starship class in service. (STO - Klingon War mission: "Welcome to Earth Spacedock")

In the year 2410, the Utopia represented its class on Starfleet Shipyards Operations interfaces at Federation shipyard and Khitomer Alliance facilities across the Milky Way Galaxy, including Earth Spacedock and the Jenolan Dyson Sphere. (STO - The Delta Quadrant mission: "Escalation")

Khitomer Alliance flag officers deployed the Utopia in every quadrant of the galaxy as part of the four-quadrant strategy. STO - New Dawn mission: "Welcome to Earth Spacedock")

Legacy[]

NX-03

Challenger NX-03 in 2410.

Following the Temporal Cold War front in 2409 and the Iconian War in 2410, the Khitomer Alliance reintroduced 23rd century starship classes, including a refit of the 22nd century Columbia-class cruiser. With both the NX- and Columbia-class escorts active in the 25th century, the Utopia's modularity paid off. The components between the NX and Columbia were interchangeable. (STO website: Reckoning : The Undiscovered Lockbox)

Legendary temporal operative escorts

NX-class derived legendary starships in 2411.

The Challenger NX-03 replaced the Utopia on Starfleet Shipyards Operations interfaces from 2410 onward. (STO - Reckoning mission: "Welcome to Earth Spacedock")

Following the Battle of Excalbia on stardate 84999.22[5] in early 2411, which saw the prominent involvement of hero ships from the Federation's past and present, the NX- and Columbia-classes were among the ships that received a refit to legendary starship qualifications. This added the 2280s-era Columbia-class refit to the available ship modularity. (STO - Legacy missions: "Measure of Morality (Part 2)", "Welcome to Earth Spacedock")
