The USS Yamaguchi[5] (NCC-26510)[6] was a 24th century Federation starship, an Ambassador-class tier 4[7] heavy cruiser[1] in Starfleet service from the 2340s[2] to the 2360s[5] decades. In the year 2367, the Yamaguchi took part in the Battle of Wolf 359. (ST reference: The Star Trek Encyclopedia)

Specifications[]

Around stardate 73XX.6, the Yamaguchi was rated a level 4 battle group heavy cruiser. It featured room for four officers and slots for five weapons or additional systems. Its deflector shields were rated 490, while the structural integrity field, or hull strength, topped at 645. (ST video game: Trexels mission: "Skirmish")

At some point during the 24th century, Yamaguchi's spaceframe was modified, and the ship became the lead vessel of the Yamaguchi-class refit variant of the Ambassador class. The upgrades included a different positioning of the connection between saucer section and the neck of the engineering hull, shorter nacelle pylons, and an additional shuttlebay underneath the original bay. (STO - House Reborn mission: "Welcome to Earth Spacedock")

Service history and disposition[]

Battle of Wolf 359

The USS Yamaguchi was launched in 2342. (ST reference: The Autobiography of Jean-Luc Picard)

As part of Federation Starfleet operations in the Trexelian Expanse around stardate 73XX.6, the USS Yamaguchi participated in the war games conducted by Starfleet and allied vessels from the 23rd and 24th centuries. (ST video game: Trexels mission: "Skirmish")

The Yamaguchi also saw action in conflicts with the Klingon Empire, Cardassian Union and Breen Confederacy. (ST video game: Trexels missions: "Events", "Breen Barrier")

The Yamaguchi was part of the fleet of 40 ships assembled by Vice Admiral J.P. Hanson to waylay Borg cube 632[8] at Wolf 359. Hanson's fleet engaged Locutus' cube in battle and hoped to stop it from reaching Earth in Sector 001. (STO - Task Force Operation mission: "Battle of Wolf 359")

The Yamaguchi joined the wave that included the Nebula-class starship Bellerophon. (DS9 episode: "Emissary")

Locutus of Borg, the assimilated Starfleet captain Jean-Luc Picard, used his tactical knowledge to decimate the Federation fleet. The Yamaguchi was wrecked and effectively destroyed in the battle. (STO - Task Force Operation mission: "Battle of Wolf 359")

USS Yamaguchi wreck 2411

The wrecked Yamaguchi in 2411.

In the 2410s, the Yamaguchi was one of the 31 shipwrecks on display along a docking arm of the Wolf 359 Memorial Station in the Wolf 359 star system. With the intact, decommissioned USS Hood taking a separate docking port, close to the space station's primary hull, the Yamaguchi occupied in 5th memorial position on the spiraling docking arm. (STO - Both Worlds mission: "Omega Molecule Stabilization")

In 2411, Captain Ezri Dax oversaw a Khitomer Alliance training simulation wherein Alliance starships re-enacted the battle on the holodeck to prepare for combat with the Borg Kingdom from the mirror universe. The Yamaguchi was one of the ships recreated holographically for the operation, albeit as a New Orleans-class vessel. (STO - Task Force Operation mission: "Battle of Wolf 359")
