It consisted of several planets of the Beta Rigel star system: Beta Rigel II, Beta Rigel IV, Beta Rigel V, Beta Rigel VI and Beta Rigel X.

Its three native species were the Jelna, the Zami, and the Chelons. Significant expatriate populations of Coridanites, Ithenites, Xarantine, and even Humans were also citizens. (ENT - Rise of the Federation novel: Tower of Babel) Its cities included New Burbank and the Rigel Trade Complex. (ST reference: Star Charts) Its capital city was Tregon. (ENT - Rise of the Federation novels: A Choice of Futures, Tower of Babel)

The government of the United Rigel Worlds and Colonies was known as the Rigelian Trade Commission. (ENT - Rise of the Federation novel: Tower of Babel)

In 2164, the United Rigel Worlds and Colonies were accepted as a Member State of the United Federation of Planets. (ENT - Rise of the Federation novel: Tower of Babel)

The planets of the Beta Rigel system in Star Charts are inextricably linked to those of the Rigel system seen in other sources. In a merged continuity, the United Rigel Colonies would likely comprise Federation-settled colonies on the worlds of Rigel II, Rigel IV, Rigel V (each are stated to be Federation members in other sources), Rigel VI and Rigel X.
