In the year 2371, a type-8 shuttle attached to USS Voyager was captured by a Numiri patrol vessel to retrieve Doctor Tolen Ren's weapon research, hidden in the memory engram of Tom Paris. Lieutenant Paris and Ensign Harry Kim ostensibly piloted the shuttle but it actually served as a decoy. Captain Kathryn Janeway had the shuttle loaded with 40 tons of thalmerite explosives and threatened the patrol vessel with its detonation. The Numiri relented and the shuttle returned to Voyager. A type-8 shuttle passed the Transamerica Pyramid in San Francisco in 2371. In an alternate timeline created when Harry Kim intersected with a temporal inversion fold, Kim observed the shuttle's transit from his apartment in the Mission District. (VOY episode: "Non Sequitur")

By 2409, the type-8 had become the default shuttlecraft used by Starfleet. In that year, numerous shuttles of this time passed between Starfleet Academy, San Francisco, and Earth's orbital facilities. Starfleet dispatched a type-8 shuttle to ferry Ambassador Sokketh from Vulcan aboard a starship. The shuttle landed in the desert near a Vulcan arena. (STO - Klingon War mission: "Diplomatic Orders")

Starbase 39-Sierra requisitioned a type-8 shuttle for a commanding officer to investigate the Vault in the Haakona system. (STO - Romulan Mystery mission: "The Vault")

In 2410, Captain Geordi La Forge and his away team were locked in a holodeck aboard USS Madison. Stuck in holoprogram Barclay-42-Epsilon, the scenario involved defending the survivors of a crashed type-8 shuttle against attacking Borg drones. (STO - New Frontiers mission: "Beyond the Nexus")

A shuttle of this type was among the small-craft on a Dranuur Colony landing pad. (STO - New Frontiers mission: "Melting Pot")
