[edit] Technology

The following are a list of scientific and technological projects the Romulan Star Empire has conducted.

[edit] Telepresence technology

[edit] Telepresence drones

The first development of remote telepresence technology as a means of controlling drone vessels in the 22nd century. The units required a sufficiently strong telepath on a scale similar to the Aenar to make use of te technology allowing for remote control at a secure facility on Romulus. The drones themselves were modified T'Liss class warbirds who's hulls consisted of numerous holographic emitters and a multiphasic weapons array. This allowed the craft to not only change its appearance to that of an enemy ship but match their weapon signature. The drones being remotely controlled did not have a crew and thus had no life support with a limited repair system in place to fix any damage sustained. The drones were used in a campaign of spreading distrust between Coalition of Planets members by appearing as an ally ship and attacking. The two prototypes were destroyed when the Aenar pilot turned the two drones against one another. Further attempts at gaining more Aenar pilots failed due to interference from the Enterprise.

[edit] Telecapture system

Developed in 2155 as an offshoot of the technology that created the telepresence drones, the Arrenhe'hwiua telecapture system was a new weapon that was developed by the scientific fields of the Romulan Star Empire. The system worked by remotely accessing any enemy ships command systems one at a time allowing for an eventual control over the entire ship. Typically, this involved taking over the primary systems such as weapons after which the telecapture technology took over lifesupport. Once this was achieved, the environmental systems were dropped to a state that left the crew unconscious but alive allowing life signs to read the crew of the ship but without realizing that the ship had been commandeered by the Romulans.

The technology was used to capture numerous Klingon warships on their border after which they were used in attacks on the Coalition of Planets. The ultimate aim was to use the attacks as a means of provoking a conflict between the Klingon Empire and the Coalition. Further attempts involved using Coalition vessels being captured by the telecapture system in order to further fragment the unity between the allied races in the Coalition.
