A friendly reminder regarding spoilers! At present the expanded Trek universe is in a period of major upheaval with the continuations of Discovery and Prodigy, the advent of new eras in gaming with the Star Trek Adventures RPG, Star Trek: Infinite and Star Trek Online, as well as other post-57th Anniversary publications such as the ongoing IDW Star Trek comic and spin-off Star Trek: Defiant. Therefore, please be courteous to other users who may not be aware of current developments by using the {{spoiler}}, {{spoilers}} OR {{majorspoiler}} tags when adding new information from sources less than six months old (even if it is minor info). For the mirror universe counterpart, see Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards (mirror).

The Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards was an important Starfleet starship construction and design facility based at the Utopia Planitia area on Mars in the Sol system. The shipyard spans from land-based portions all the way to geosynchronous orbit above the planet.

History[]

Many important starships and a number of shuttlecraft classes were constructed there, including the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-D), the USS Defiant (NX-74205), and the USS Voyager, as well as the Type-6, Type-7 and Type-9A shuttlecraft. (TNG reference: Star Trek: The Next Generation Technical Manual)

The yards were destroyed by a Romulan fleet in 2158. (ST reference: Federation: The First 150 Years)

The date when they were reconstructed had not specified as of 2019.

The yards were made up of a number of separate facilities, including space stations and drydocks. The main complex of the shipyards was Utopia Station One, where a large docking port allowed starships to dock. (TTN novel: Taking Wing)

Planitia also features facilities for civilians, including teaching facilities for children. Doctor Lamerson taught at one such facility in the 2360s. (DS9 novelization: Emissary)

In 2385, Geordi La Forge was stationed at the shipyards, overseeing the construction an evacuation fleet to provide aid to the Romulan colony planets that were liable to be struck by the shockwave of the Hobus supernova. (PIC - Countdown comic: "Issue 1")

Later that year, during the Attack on Mars, Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards were destroyed. (Short Treks, "Children of Mars"; Star Trek: Picard, 1x02 "Maps and Legends")

First Splinter continuity[]

When the USS Defiant was forced to fire its warhead module in defense of Deep Space 9 in 2376 the replacement module was delivered directly from Utopia Planitia. (DS9 novel: Avatar, Book One)

In 2381, the long-lost Columbia was tugged by the USS da Vinci after salvage and recovery before being towed to Earth. (ST - Destiny novel: Lost Souls)

Star Trek Online continuity[]

In 2409, a fleet of Klingon Defense Force ships ambushed the Fleet Yards after having the access codes to the Sol System defense system stolen from the captain of the USS DeWitt. The yards were heavily damaged, temporarily crippling the fleet. (STO mission: "Second Star to the Right, Straight on 'til Morning")
