Vacuum desiccation is a method used to remove all moisture from animal remains, and to reduce those remains to a powder-like substance. Vacuum desiccation was used in Ferengi culture on the bodies of the deceased, after which the end product was divided into small disks and sold. (DS9 episode: "The Nagus", et.al.)
