Valley Forge is an area of Pennsylvania. During the American Revolutionary War, George Washington and his Continental Army spent the winter of late 1777 and early 1778 there. It proved to be the turning point of the war agaisnt Great Britain, rejuvenating the Continental Army which was close to collapse before and during the sixth month period.

The United Federation of Planets has named many starships after the encampment, such as the Constitution class NCC-1732, the Excelsior class NCC-43305 and an Iwo Jima class ship. (DS9 episode: "Tears of the Prophets", TNG video game: Armada II)

In early 2374, three months into the Dominion War, Captain Benjamin Sisko described the Federation and the Klingon Empire's situation as being as grim as that of Valley Forge. (DS9 novelization: Call to Arms...)
