Van Hansen was a humanoid male Starfleet officer in the mid-23rd century. He served aboard the USS Enterprise in 2254 as assistant chief engineer but was killed in an explosion when Chakuun ghostships attacked the Enterprise at Theta Kalyb. (EV comic: "The Fallen")

It's unclear if Van Hansen is his full name, or just his surname. Chief Engineer Moves-With-Burning-Grace calls him "Van" twice, then names him as "Second Engineer Van Hansen" when reporting his death to Captain Pike.
