A Van Luden radiation belt was a type phenomenon which could be found in star systems, such as the Davon system. Van Luden belts are a particularly attractive phenomenon glowing a shimmering yellow. They output sensor interference making an irritating noise in an ear piece and providing good cover from an opponents sensors. (DS9 novel: Devil in the Sky)
