Helga Van Mayter was a female engineer assigned to the USS Enterprise-D in the mid-2360s. While aboard the Enterprise, she was part of a small social group which dubbed itself the "corner office".

In 2365, Van Mayter was part of the crew of the USS Hathaway during a war games exercise agaist the Enterprise, during which she earned a commendation.

In 2366, Van Mayter was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant, junior grade. (SCE eBook: Many Splendors)

Van Mayter was killed when the Enterprise encountered a spatial anomaly in the Mar Oscura nebula in 2367, causing her to fall partway through the ship's deck. (TNG episode: "In Theory")

Van Mayter was given her first name in the ebook.
