The Emperor class, or VoDleh class, is a type of Klingon heavy battle cruiser used by the Klingon Empire during the year 2293. Information on this class of vessel was restricted and thus its capabilities were not truly known.
The ship is believed to be a successor to the older Ber'taa class which had a higher weapon loadout. These vessels were designed to serve as a vital support element within the Klingon Defense Force by supporting the larger Accuser class starships. It carried a newer photon torpedo launcher developed Klingon scientists during that time period. This class of ship was a four engined vessel with a pair of nacelles on top while another below the rear section.
The Emperor class heavy battle cruiser were powerful warship with strong shields as well as weapons along with a reliable hull design. They also had a greater deal of firepower compared to the Federation equivalent, namely the Excelsior class battle cruiser. However, they suffer in terms of shield strength and speed. Despite this disadvantage, these ships were reliable warships and only granted to the best of Klingon commanders due to the fact that they were rarely seen in the Klingon fleets. They tended to serve as sector commandships when a dreadnaught was not available.
At the time of their deployment before the Federation peace treaty, there were two dozen ships in service while another six were under construction. Building these ships were not much trouble for the shipyards as they were produced on strengthened D7 class platforms. Despite this advantage, they shared few components which lengthened its construction time to over two years.
These ships were believed to be the direct predecessor of the Vor'cha class attack cruisers used in latter years.
