Vole fighting is a popular sport on Cardassia that pits vole animal lifeforms against each other.

History and specifics[]

The Rebron Arena, just outside Cardassia City, plays host to weekly vole fights that include bets that Cardassians put on the vole they expect to win. (ST reference: Federation Travel Guide)

In the year 2371, Quark and Morn were preparing to stage a vole fight with the voles Quark had rounded up in his storeroom. The pair were caught by Odo, who brought Quark to Benjamin Sisko, who told Odo to confiscate the voles and remove them from Deep Space 9. (DS9 episode: "Through the Looking Glass")

Later in 2371, Quark suggested that with a peaceful Cardassian presence on DS9 that he might lease the space next to his bar to put in some Cardassian "concessions." Knowing that Quark was likely looking for a space to hold vole fights, both Odo and Sisko quickly shot down the idea and made sure he knew he'd be held responsible for any vole fights whether he initiated them or not. (DS9 episode: "Destiny")

When Quark claimed that his bar wasn't getting as much power as it required, Captain Sisko told him that ending vole fights would return his power consumption to normal. (DS9 novel: Legends of the Ferengi)
