Volition was the name of a type of recreational game involving competitions between opposing bacterial lifeforms. Volition was enjoyed by the S'ti'ach civilization.

The object of the game is to see which lifeforms will adapt and out-evolve others.

Aboard USS Titan, Huilan Sen'kara described volition to Christine Vale, who found it interesting, but morally questionable. Huilan used the complexity of the game as an analogy to the complex and difficult behavior of Chief Engineer Xin Ra-Havreii. (TTN novel: Sword of Damocles)
