As of 2376, he held the rank of Captain, and was commanding officer of the USS Intrepid. That year, he and the Intrepid aided in the evacuation of Europa Nova when the planet was struck by a massive theta irradiated waste field during the Gateways Crisis. In 2380, Emick was ordered to Outpost 22 in response to the detection of a Reman ship heading for the border. (ST novel: Articles of the Federation)

In an alternate timeline, Emick and his crew were killed in 2373, when the Intrepid was destroyed by Cardassians at Dorvan V. (ST - Myriad Universes novel: A Gutted World)
