War and Peace was a classic Terran novel by Leo Tolstoy, written in the 19th century. It was considered one of the greatest works of Russian literature.

James T. Kirk was of the opinion that there was something "obscene" about publishing a book such as War and Peace on a computer disk, as opposed to on paper. (TOS novel: Strangers from the Sky)
