Wetherell was a Starfleet medical officer assigned to the USS Enterprise-A in 2286. She attempted to follow the pattern of a game of three-dimensional chess between Doctor McCoy and Captain Spock, but was eventually forced to relent. (ST comic: "Debt of Honor")

Wetherell's rank insignia most resembles that worn by a lieutenant junior grade, but she was identified in dialogue as a commander; presumably, the abstract insignia was intended to convey only an impression of insignia. The insignia of a full commander is shown, but there exists a possibility the rank being referred to was actually lieutenant commander.
