William B. Travis was a 19th century soldier who led the Texan forces at the Alamo during its siege by the Mexican leader Antonio López de Santa Anna. Travis died during the famous battle.

Julian Bashir often played Travis and Miles O'Brien would play Davy Crockett in Deep Space 9's holosuites. They would also discuss Travis and the Battle of the Alamo outside the holosuites as well. (DS9 episodes: "Afterimage", "Once More Unto the Breach", "Extreme Measures")

Just before the Second Battle of Chin'toka, O'Brien had built a model of the Alamo and created several figures, including one of Travis. The figure was later lost and O'Brien blamed Bashir. (DS9 episode: "The Changing Face of Evil")

When leaving DS9 for Earth several weeks later, O'Brien found the Travis figure on the floor of his empty quarters. (DS9 episode: "What You Leave Behind")

O'Brien would later offer it to Bashir, although his friend allowed him to keep it. (DS9 novelization: What You Leave Behind)
