William Terrens was a 23rd century Human man. He was a technician and geophysicist.

Biography[]

In 2266, Terrens became the technical assistant for the M-317 geological experimental station on planet M-317. He spent the next two years on the surface isolated from civilization.

In 2267, Terrens found potential commercial value in the local, pleasantly aromatic Tojufu trees. He planned to cultivate them, pulp them, and sell the fragrance for a high profit.

In 2268, the facility's director Patrick Moore realized the Tojufu trees were sentient and intended to publicly announce the discovery in a paper delivered at the Interstellar Geophysical Conference on Beta Aurigae III. Terrens saw his future threatened, and conspired to keep the knowledge secret. He accompanied Moore aboard the Federation starship USS Enterprise, then poisoned his desert with a chemical similar to potassium cyanide that made Moore's death look like heart failure. Terrens then stole the professor's paper and rifled through the man's possessions.

In an attempt to expose the killer, Captain James T. Kirk stated that he had a copy of Moore's paper. Terrens planted a bomb near Kirk's quarters, but Spock was caught in the blast. Kirk subsequently announced that he would read Moore's paper at the conference. Terrens followed and sneaked behind the stage, preparing to shoot Kirk with a phaser, but Spock apprehended him with a Vulcan nerve pinch. (TOS comic: "Murder on the Enterprise")
