Yvette Gessard Picard was the wife of Maurice Picard and the mother of Robert Picard and Jean-Luc Picard.

This character is a member of the Picard family.

Biography[]

Yvette lived in the Picard family home in La Barre, France, and helped Maurice tend the vineyard as well as bring up the children. While Maurice wanted their sons to continue to run the vineyard following his death, Yvette encouraged her sons to develop beyond the family business. She encouraged Jean-Luc to practise to play the piano, which made her happy, until he decided to stop playing. (TNG episodes: "Where No One Has Gone Before", "Conundrum")

As a young woman Yvette suffered from severe mental illness. Maurice tried to convince her to seek treatment for her condition, but she refused to do so. (PIC episode: "Monsters") She committed suicide in the 2310s. (PIC episode: "Hide and Seek")

Later in his life, Picard liked to imagine her as an older woman she could have become if she still lived. (PIC episode: "Hide and Seek (episode)")

In TNG comic: "The Gift", Yvette was referred to as Christine.
According to The Autobiography of Jean-Luc Picard she died in 2342, which contradicts the time of her death shown in Star Trek: Picard.
