Zakal (later known as Zakal the Terrible) was a Vulcan High Master of Kolinahr on Vulcan thousands of years ago. Zakal was an opponent to the teachings of Surak, and he and his followers worked to sabotage Surak's attempts to bring logic and peace to Vulcan from their secret hideaway in the Mountains of Gol. Following his death in 140005 (Vulcan Old Date), one of his followers, named S'task, led 80,000 people away from Vulcan and later founded the Romulan Star Empire.
